Special Forces
Special Operation Command logo U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is a unified command responsible for all Department of Defense special operations forces - Army, Navy and Air Force.
Located at MacDill AFB, Tampa, Fla., its Commander is U.S. Air Force Gen. Charles R. Holland.
It is from here that orders are given to send specialized troops into unfamiliar arenas, where they then perform unconventional duties.

Many types of special forces exist - all with specific roles involving land-, sea- and air-based operations. It is these units that pave the way for larger numbers of conventional forces to follow.
