USF MULTIMEDIA JOURNALISM

Class Projects Archive

In spring 2001, the University of South Florida's School of Mass Communications and Media General's News Center in downtown Tampa began the only class of its kind in the country, ''Multimedia Journalism.'' Teams of USF Mass Communications print journalism and telecommunications news undergraduate students produce stories for the News Center’s three main media platforms: The Tampa Tribune, WFLA-TV News Channel 8, and their online partner TBO.com.

Students attend class sessions on the USF campus and at the News Center, with instruction from a USF faculty member and team instructors from each of the News Center’s media platforms. Other News Center professionals visit the class throughout the semester. The students are invited to treat the News Center like they would an internship, and they are welcome to shadow reporters and editors, ask questions, and go out with news crews covering stories. No other college journalism class in the country allows students the opportunity to work and publish with such high-level convergence professionals.
